The Global Challenge Story
Anna-Marie Franken describes the birth of our missional community as follows:
Global Challenge was conceived while taking a group of young South Africans on a mission trip to Bosnia just after the tragic civil war. During the adventure, the fun and struggles that came from that journey, God started speaking to me about a journey-based discipleship / leadership programme - a programme that would address the need to know, to feel, to risk, to serve and to explore while living on the edge and doing the crazy things that comes with the package of being a 20-something. So, in 2007, I challenged 20 young people and we packed our backpacks and embarked on a one-year journey around the world that would change our lives forever.
The heart of Global Challenge is to attract the risk-taking younger generation to take them on a year-long discipleship journey. This expedition in community with Jesus, creates a change in every heart and paradigm. The result of this daring journey gives participants incredible global perspective, and enables them to discover and tell their own God stories.
Our pioneering story grew in momentum and on 13 February 2009 God led us into a new frontier and Global Challenge Expeditions was entered into the register of the South African Department of Social Development with registration number: 066-651-NPO.
There are more frontiers waiting for us ...and our story reads on...
